Stages of the Taxation Process:<\/p>\n
Tax-Giving Event: The taxation process begins with the occurrence of a tax-generating event. This event may be a transaction, situation or activity that is determined by law and subject to tax. For example, generating income for income tax, selling goods or services for value added tax (VAT), and owning property for real estate tax can be counted as taxable events.
\nAssessment: After the event that gives rise to the tax occurs, the amount of the tax is calculated by the tax office and the tax debt is assessed. The assessment process can be carried out upon filing of the tax return or through ex officio tax assessment.
\nNotification: The process of notifying the taxpayer of the assessed tax is called notification. Notification can be made in writing or electronically in accordance with the notification law. The taxpayer has the right to examine the tax notified and to object, if any.
\nAccrual: The process by which the notified tax becomes obligatory for the taxpayer to pay is called accrual. The accrual process starts from the date of notification.
\nCollection: The process of collecting the tax debt from the taxpayer is called collection. Collection can be made in cash or in installments. Legal proceedings are initiated by the tax offices against taxpayers who do not pay their tax debts.<\/p>\n
