1. Who Can Benefit from Unemployment Benefits?

You must meet certain conditions to receive unemployment benefits:

Becoming unemployed against your will,
Having worked as an insured employee for the last 120 days before leaving your job,
Having paid unemployment insurance premiums for at least 600 days in the last three years,
Applying within 30 days at the latest after leaving your job.

Example: Ms. Ayşe was laid off from her job where she had been working for 3 years for economic reasons. Ms. Ayşe can apply for unemployment benefits and receive state support during this period.

2. Where to Apply?

Applications for unemployment benefits can be made in two ways:

İŞKUR Branches: You can apply for unemployment benefits by going to the nearest İŞKUR branch.

Application via e-Government: You can also apply online via the e-Government system. This is a more practical method and has been preferred especially during periods such as pandemics.

Example: Mr. Mehmet completed his application via e-Government because he did not have time to go to the İŞKUR branch after leaving his job.

3. Application Period and Conditions

You must apply within 30 days of leaving your job. If you exceed this period, the delayed days will be deducted from your salary payments.

Example: Mr. Ahmet applied 35 days after leaving his job. Although his application is accepted, he will not receive his 5-day salary due to the delay.

4. Documents Required for Application

You will need to prepare the following documents during the application:

ID document,
Resignation notice (issued by the employer),
Unemployment benefit application form.

Example: Ms. Selin applied with the resignation notice she received from her employer and her ID after she was dismissed.

5. How Long Is Unemployment Benefit Paid?

The duration of unemployment benefit varies according to the number of premium payment days in the last three years:

Those who paid 600 days of premium can receive salary for 180 days (6 months),
Those who paid 900 days of premium can receive salary for 240 days (8 months),
Those who paid 1080 days of premium can receive salary for 300 days (10 months).

Example: Ms. Zeynep, who paid 1000 days of premium in the last three years, can receive unemployment benefit for 8 months.

6. How is the Amount of Unemployment Benefit Calculated?

Unemployment benefit is calculated as 40% of your gross earnings for the last four months. However, this amount cannot exceed 80% of the gross amount of the minimum wage.

Example: Mr. Barış, whose average gross salary for the last 4 months is 10,000 TL, will receive 4,000 TL (40% of 10,000 TL) as unemployment benefit.

7. Things to Consider When Receiving Unemployment Benefits
You must evaluate the job offers offered by İŞKUR while receiving unemployment benefits. If you do not accept a suitable job, you may lose your right to a salary.

You may need to attend courses offered by İŞKUR after applying.
If you start working in a job with insurance, your unemployment benefit will be cut off.

Example: Ege Bey’s salary payment was stopped because he rejected the suitable job offer offered to him by İŞKUR while receiving unemployment benefits.

8. Post-Application Process

After you apply, İŞKUR conducts the necessary investigations and makes a decision on whether you are entitled to receive a salary. Salaries are paid from PTT branches or banks as of the month following entitlement.

Example: Derya Hanım learned that her application was approved and that she could receive her salary from PTT.
