1. Unemployment Benefit Conditions

The basic conditions that must be met in order to receive unemployment benefits are as follows:

Being unemployed through no fault of your own will.
Having paid at least 600 days of unemployment insurance premiums in the last 3 years before becoming unemployed.
Having worked under a contract of service for the last 120 days.
Applying to İŞKUR for unemployment benefits.

Example: Mr. Ali is an employee who has paid 650 days of unemployment insurance premiums in the last 3 years. He was dismissed due to economic problems at his workplace. In this case, Mr. Ali can benefit from unemployment benefits.

2. How Long is Unemployment Benefit Received?

The duration of unemployment benefits varies depending on the number of days the insured has paid unemployment insurance premiums:

If 600 days of premiums have been paid in the last 3 years, 180 days (6 months) of unemployment benefits will be received.

If 900 days of premiums have been paid, 240 days (8 months) of unemployment benefits will be received.
If 1080 days of premium payment is made, 300 days (10 months) of unemployment benefit is received.

Example: Mr. Mehmet is an employee who has paid 1100 days of premium in the last 3 years. After being dismissed, Mr. Mehmet can receive unemployment benefit for 10 months.

3. How is the Amount of Unemployment Benefit Calculated?

The amount of unemployment benefit is calculated based on the gross salary of the person who became unemployed for the last 4 months. However, this salary does not exceed 40% of the person’s gross salary and the unemployment benefit can be up to 80% of the gross minimum wage.

Example: Ms. Zeynep’s gross salary before becoming unemployed was 10,000 TL. When the unemployment benefit is calculated, Ms. Zeynep will be able to receive a maximum of 4,000 TL of unemployment benefit. Since this amount does not exceed 80% of the minimum wage, Ms. Zeynep can receive her salary in full.

4. Things to Consider When Receiving Unemployment Benefits

Here are some important points that individuals receiving unemployment benefits should pay attention to during their unemployment benefits:

They must accept jobs offered by İŞKUR.
They must inform İŞKUR at certain intervals that they are looking for a job.
They must not work in another job with insurance during the period they receive unemployment benefits. Otherwise, their salaries will be cut.

5. What Happens After Unemployment Benefits?

If a person still cannot find a job after the unemployment benefit period ends, it is not possible to receive any salary support. However, they can continue to actively search for a job through İŞKUR and develop their professional skills by attending various courses. In this way, the possibility of finding a job can be increased.
