Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications Made on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed Through These Publications:
This law, which forms the basis of publications made on the internet in Turkey, aims to protect fundamental rights and freedoms such as freedom of expression and personal rights.
The law regulates issues such as the dissemination and prevention of illegal content, the responsibilities of internet service providers, cyber crimes and criminal sanctions.
Law No. 7253 on the Amendment of the Law on the Regulation of Publications Made on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed Through These Publications:
This law, which was adopted in 2020, brought significant changes to Law No. 5651.
One of the most important changes is the obligation of domestic and foreign social network providers with more than 1 million daily access to appoint representatives in Turkey.
In addition, this law has introduced new regulations to adapt legal regulations to current internet technologies and to protect user rights.
Personal Data Protection Law:
Protection of personal data is also an important issue in publications made on the internet.
In this context, the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 regulates the processing and protection of personal data in accordance with the law.
Internet publishers are also considered personal data controllers within the scope of this law and have obligations to protect personal data.
Other Relevant Legislation:
In addition to the laws mentioned above, other legislation such as the Turkish Penal Code, the Turkish Code of Obligations and the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works may also affect social media and internet publications.
