Illegal Betting and Laws
Illegal betting is prohibited by the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) and Law No. 7258 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports.
While heavy penalties are imposed on those who place illegal bets, those who become members of these sites and place bets may also face serious penalties.

For example: When a person becomes a member of an illegal betting site and deposits money, this transaction can be detected through banks and payment systems, and legal action can be initiated against the person.

2. Fines and Prison Sentences
While fines can be imposed on people who place illegal bets, prison sentences can also be brought to the agenda in repeated cases.

The amount of the penalty may increase depending on the amount of bets played and the frequency of the person’s participation in illegal betting.

For example: While an administrative fine is imposed on a person who is detected to have placed illegal bets for the first time, a prison sentence may be applied in the event of a repeat.

3. Banking Transactions and Financial Threats
Money transfers made to illegal betting sites are closely monitored by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK). The bank accounts of people who send money to illegal betting sites may be blocked and an investigation may be initiated against the person.

For example: As a result of MASAK’s investigations, the bank accounts of a person who constantly transfers money to an illegal betting site may be frozen and legal action may be initiated.

4. Misuse of Identity Information
Since illegal betting sites are generally unreliable platforms, the identity and financial information you provide when you become a member of these sites may be misused.

Situations such as identity fraud and identity theft may be encountered.

For example: The identity information of a person who becomes a member of an illegal betting site may be sold to third parties and fraudulent activities may be carried out with this information.

5. Lack of Legal Protection of Earned Money
Since the winnings obtained from illegal betting sites are not considered legally valid, you cannot claim legal rights if the money you have won is not paid.

For example: A person who makes a big profit on an illegal betting site cannot apply to the court and request legal protection if he cannot get his money.
6. Tax Penalties
Income earned through illegal betting sites is not subject to tax declaration, and in this case, the person may also face tax evasion charges.

Example: A person who earns through illegal betting may face tax evasion charges and pay additional tax penalties because they do not declare these earnings to the state.

7. Social and Family Problems
One of the biggest problems that individuals who play illegal betting may face is social and family discredit. Such activities may be viewed negatively by the person’s social circle and family and may lead to conflicts in relationships.

Example: An individual who is revealed to be playing illegal betting may suffer a loss of reputation at work and cause domestic unrest.

8. Recurring Situations and Aggravating Penalties
Recurring situations in illegal betting activities cause penalties to become more severe. Even if a person who commits the first crime gets away with only an administrative fine, he may face imprisonment in subsequent transactions.
Example: A person who has previously been penalized for illegal betting will face more severe penalties if caught again.

9. International Criminal Network Risk
Illegal betting sites are often run by international criminal networks, and people involved in these networks may be unwittingly linked to such crimes.

Example: A person who repeatedly deposits money into illegal betting sites may be perceived as part of this criminal network and become the target of wider investigations.
